How to choose a pressure sensor?

There are multiple types of pressure transducers for a variety of applications. Each pressure transducer has different aspects that will impact how it works and the applications the pressure transducer works best for. When selecting a pressure transducer, keep these five criteria in mind:

1.     Pressure range: 0-10…  10,000 bar/ psi/ mpa or other pressure range

2.     Type of pressure measurement: absolute/ gauge/ differential pressure

3.     Application

Most important information is the process media. It may be used in air/ oil/ gas/ break fluid/ chemical/ water or other environment. We may need to customize different proposal

4.     Temperature range

Extremes in temperature or vibration will limit what transmitters will function properly. For temperature extremes, thin-film technology is superior. The extreme temperatures also create errors in the output of the transducer. The error is often expressed in percent full scale over 1°C (%FS/°C).

5.     Accuracy: Usually 0.1% FS to 1% FS

6.     Power supply: 3.3V/ 5V/ 12V/ 24V are widely chosen.

7.     Output:

There are several types of outputs for pressure transducers. These include: ratiometric, mV/V output, amplified voltage output (0.5-4.5V, 0-5V, 0-10V), mA output (4-20mA, 0-20mA), and digital outputs like I2C/ RS485. More details on each type of output can be found here . In general, it is important to consider the constraints and benefits of each output to determine the best output type for your application.
